Maryland Dental Hygienists' Association

Scholarship Winner Alexis Henson

My name is Alexis Nicole Henson. I attend the dental hygiene program at Hagerstown Community College. I am the proud mom of an extraordinary five year old boy. We enjoy traveling and exploring new places, attending concerts and musical festivals together, and spending time with loved ones.

I chose to go into the dental hygiene field because I wanted to be able to play a role in the health and well being of others. On top of that, it is a very rewarding career that will allow me to furnish an exceptional life for myself and my son. When I graduate I look forward to providing compassionate care to others.

After working in a private office for a few years, I would like to volunteer my time and resources to assist the underprivileged, whether it be working in prisons, in areas of poverty, or even in the school system. I also plan to go back to school later in life to combine another passion of mine, forensic science, with the dental aspect and become a forensic odontologist.

The dental hygiene field is very diverse and allows for me to branch off into many different areas and try many new things all while bettering the health and lives of others.
